Daniel Weitzel is a University Assistant/postdoc in the Department of Government and is part of ther Digitize! project. His research interest focus on the strategic behavior of political parties during elections.

He uses text as data, Bayesian statistics, and machine learning to study the interaction of political parties and voters. In particular, he focuses on the determinants and consequences of negative campaigning in multi-party electoral competition in Europe. He also works on estimating the prevalence and consequences of variation of political knowledge and information in the mass public and news media.

He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in 2020. He has received a M.Sc. in Statistics from the Department of Statistics and Data Science at the University of Texas at Austin, a M.Sc. in Political Behaviour from the University of Essex, an M.A. in Political Science and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.
