Political Institutions
Institutions play a key role in political systems, as they define the framework conditions for political decisions. Their structures and modes of operation also have a decisive influence on the stability, efficiency and legitimacy of political systems. Our research focuses on the role of parliaments, governments, electoral systems, courts and international organisations as well as their mutual interactions with social actors (such as voters, parties and the media) in Austria and from a comparative perspective.
For example, we analyse the functioning of coalition governments, legislative processes and institutional reforms. In addition, our research projects analyse how political institutions react to social change, crises and new challenges. The aim is to gain an in-depth understanding of the functioning and development of political institutions and to better understand their influence on democratic processes and political stability.
