Party Competition
Party competition is an essential component of democratic systems and describes the competition between political parties for votes, government responsibility and the implementation of their political programmes. Our research in this area analyses the programmatic orientation of parties as well as the dynamics of election campaigns and coalition formation. Further, a particularl focus is placed on the internal party structures and decision-making processes, which have a decisive influence on the programmatic and strategic orientation of the parties. In addition, our research analyses the effects of party competition on political stability, governance and social polarisation, particularly in Austria and from a comparative perspective. The aim is to gain a more comprehensive understanding of how parties operate in modern democracies and which factors determine their electoral successes or failures.
